Counterproduction Summer School 2025

The Counterproduction summer school returns with an experimental format.
It will take place in a villa in Contrada Fraginesi, Castellammare del Golfo (TP) from September 11 to 14, 2025.
The workshop will be intensive: for three days, each participant will share and exchange their practices in a communal living space.
We will all be teachers+ and students+.

At the heart of the mutual learning school, we want to reflect on the Isola (delle Femmine) starting from the project that a group of women has been working on since 2017 with the idea of buying the island of the same name to leave it in peace, but above all working on the broad imagery that the idea of the island brings with it: isolation, eco-feminism, commons, power relations and new forms of sharing, coexistence with nature and its species, in the manner of women, new forms of relationships, the island not as an island, archipelagos, new forms of community building, etc.

The 2025 summer school therefore proposes a different path of research, a physical place and a space for reflection, a common ground, composed of works by artists, in-depth studies, readings, collective words and actions, and workshop practices, to expand the imaginative and real possibilities of the Island.


Open call

Candidates must submit the following by August 15 2025 at 12.00 pm UTC to palermosummerschool@gmail.com 

- A proposal for a practice/teaching to be shared during the three days of the course in a .doc or .pdf file of no more than 2,000 characters.
- A short biography (max 2,000 characters).

If accepted, candidates are required to:

pay a fee of €120 within one week of acceptance to cover the costs of food, accommodation, and the 2025 membership card;
maximum cooperation in the management of activities and common areas, including the kitchen, shopping, and cleaning;
maximum willingness to get involved in every workshop activity that will be shared;
bringing sheets and towels;

We offer:
hospitality and the purchase of basic goods for shared lunches and dinners.
